Environmental concerns in the Netherlands

In a recent visit to the Netherlands I visited some transport authorities and learned about the ongoing discussion about environmental care.

Already when coming in by air the cultivated landscape reveals the massive amount of care that has been put into the land over generations. It seems that every square meter is carefully scheduled for a specific purpose: for cultivation, water supply or drainage or transports by air or roads. Seemingly, each and every home has its own share of the waterfront.

The awareness of environmental and sustainability issues is further manifested in the solar panels alongside the highway outside Amsterdam.

It is therefore natural that the environmental care in the Netherlands is reflected in a well developed plan for public transports in general and for environmentally friendly buses in particular.

The hybrid bus development is certainly a part of the plan.
